A solid brass lidded jar (or box) with finely chiseled décor of Wayang figures from Java, Indonesia. Wayang is a shadow puppet theater in Indonesia that originates from the Indian epic Ramayana. This heavy box was cast in two pieces, the cover, and the lower body, and was used to store smoking tobacco.
